Current Situation
As of 5:00 p.m. today, 67% of our customers are back in service leaving approximately 5,500 customers without power. All available Alpena Power crews are working and today we received additional mutual aid crews from the City of Bay City and the Lansing Board of Water and Light to speed up restoration.

As we move into evening the strong winds that followed yesterday’s snow, sleet and rain are subsiding and the improving weather forecast will aid the restoration efforts.

All but one of the main distribution feeder lines are energized and we have begun to circle back to some areas to restore smaller outages that were left to work larger outages. Our goal of having all main feeders energized by the end of the day Friday appears attainable, however customers should remain prepared for additional days without power.

Safety Tips
Safety of our customers is a top priority. Please keep the following in mind;
• If using a generator, ensure they are connected properly and legally with a transfer switch so they cannot back feed into the power lines and cause danger to our crews or the public.
• Always operate a generator outdoors in a well-ventilated space
• Stay at least 25 feet away from downed wires and anything they are touching, keep children or pets away, and report the issue by calling 9-1-1 and Alpena Power Company at (989) 358-4900
• Drivers should slow down or stop and wait for oncoming traffic to clear so they safely go past workers on the roadside.
• Turn main breakers off if there is standing water anywhere near electrical devices

How to check on an outage
One tool that can help keep you informed is our webpage outage viewer available at: https://www.alpenapower.com/outage-center/. A customer can zoom into their location and see if their outage has been reported. If you are in a reported area, we have the outage information and will get a crew dispatched as soon as one is available.

What if I need assistance?
If you are in need of assistance, the Alpena County Department of Emergency Management has a resource page listing resources available. It can be found at:

Summary
The outage for many is now on its sixth day, I want to thank our customers for their patience and understanding and the community for their support, which has been tremendous. Many have volunteered to help, and we have received donations providing meals, snacks, drinks, and personal supplies for our employees, mutual aid crews and contractors so they can concentrate on the job at hand, restoring power to our community.
