If you use Geothermal or Heat Pump Systems to heat or cool your home, you can save additional money on your energy bill by using the system during off-peak hours, 7:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, as well as weekends and holidays. During the off-peak hours your energy prices will be discounted from our standard residential per kWh rate. There are two ways to set up your metering to take advantage of this Efficient Electric Heat Service (EEHS) tariff.
Option 1: Installing a separate meter to measure efficient electric heat usage.
An additional metering setup can be installed that measures time of use energy for the components of the heating system, separate from all other kWH usage at the residence. EEHS kWh usage is billed monthly at a Rate of $0.16462 per kWh during On-Peak times, and a Rate of $0.12349 per kWh during Off-Peak hours, a reduction of $0.04113 per kWh from On-Peak Rates. All other kWh usage at the residence is billed monthly at applicable Rates. A customer charge of $5.25 per month applies.
Option 2: Installing a sub-meter to measure efficient electric heat usage.
In this case, an additional meter is installed inline with the main meter to measure EEHS kWh usage. With a sub meter setup, a standard meter measures total kwh usage and the sub meter measures On-Peak and Off-Peak EEHS kWh usage only. Total usage is billed at applicable Rates. All Off-Peak EEHS kWh usage is credited at $0.04113 per kWh. An additional meter charge of $3.00 per month applies.
To be eligible for the off-peak rate, the energy used by the efficient electric heat system must be metered separately with a time of use meter. This way Alpena Power will know exactly how much energy was used by the system and when it was used. We recommend hiring a licensed electrician to install the necessary meter setup.
